a5c7b9f00b Frank Darrbo is a hapless fry cook. When his wife Sarah falls off the wagon and dumps him for Jacques, a drug dealer, Frank tries to get her back by reporting her kidnapped, grabbing her from Jacques' car, and wailing for her to return. After watching Christian TV and having a vision, he becomes a superhero to fight evil. He sews a costume, finds a weapon (a pipe wrench) and looks for crimes to stop. He has problems: his wrench inflicts real injury, so the cops want him for being a vigilante, his sense of boundaries is flawed, and Jacques' gang has guns. Libby, a clerk at a comic book store, becomes his sidekick, and it's time to go save Sarah. What chance do they have?

I watched this movie on DVD last night. It didn't make it to the movie theaters where I live and and I am thankful for it.<br/><br/>Usually a review should be started by a summary. Unfortunately this movie doesn't provide enough substance to summarize anything, so I'll skip this part.<br/><br/>At first, I want to express my astonishment how anybody could vote with more than one star for this movie. Oh, I forgot… People who don't give a 9 or a 10 are just too stupid to "understand" the movie. The problem is just that, neither I am stupid, nor is there anything to understand. It is a just big pile of non-sense, the plot, the characters and their development, just everything. I don't want to repeat everything that was already said by other reviewers who gave the movie a 1. They all pointed it out correctly already.<br/><br/>No, a movie isn't a masterpiece just because it is "different" or shows violence in an exaggerated way. I love movies that tell a story, also in a different way. But not like this. As always there are those, who think that they are "so" intellectual by liking this movie, just because it is "different", making up all kinds of reasons to make them feel superior and special.<br/><br/>I think the movie shows perfectly how screwed up and schizophrenic the North American society and film-making industry is. Violence is shown in a very graphic and gory way. But the "sex" scenes are just suggested. Why not going the whole nine yards then? For example, why not showing graphically how Boltie is raping her hero with some real genitals and some real body fluids? Not that family movie style sex, when Rainn Wilson still has his boxers on after they are finished, not even having an erection? You can show how a head is half blown off, but not the wonderful act of love and reproduction? You can show a completely stoned person and drug abuse, but not "making love"? It is completely dishonest. "Porn" is bad!!! Violence is OK…! Yeah, right… Sorry for being cynical.<br/><br/>I don't need senseless violence to enjoy a movie that tells a good story. Same goes for sex in movies. It is just not necessary to show everything. Doing so doesn't change a bad movie into a good one and the other way around. And while I love good humor: Violence is not funny! Period! People who think otherwise should see their doctors for further examination.<br/><br/>This movie stole one and half hours of my life time and left me with a bad taste in my mouth. The producer should be forced to pay compensation to all viewers. And the actors should be ashamed to have played in that movie, if they were not forced at gunpoint.<br/><br/>I better stop ranting. Just a quote of my wife,she hated the movie justmuchI did: "I always thought Ellen Page is a cool actress, but now that I saw her in a really stupid movie like this, I lost a lot of my respect for her!"<br/><br/>Amen.
Ellen Page was really the only good thing about this film…I thought the film was boring…Depressing…And just plain stupid….The few times Ellen Page was on screen was all the footage that should have been shot…<br/><br/>I highly suggest that viewers record only her footage onto a different disc or computer program and then completely ignore everything else about this dumb movie…It's because of this film that I refuse to watch that television program called "The Office"…<br/><br/>Call it a guess….But I'm betting this is one of those films that was considered to be so bad…That it was put on the shelf for a number of years…And probably would have remained there if Ellen Page had not become so popular…<br/><br/>And that's all there is too it…
Gunn successfully shifts between celebrating violence and mourning it, but his handling of emotional evolution is clumsier; he seems particularly out of his depth in the film's mawkish ending. But Page is a revelation: There isn't another gorgeous twentysomething actress working today who could more convincingly reveal sexual bravado to be simultaneously silly and creepy.
